Kanji Daito was born in Tokyo, Japan in 2005. He started playing piano at the age of 6. When he was 8 years old, he encountered early music. He was selected as a member of the Inventions project of “All of Bach” (by the Netherlands Bach Society) and performed in the concert and recorded the project in Utrecht in 2016.
In 2016, 2017, and 2019, he joined the Early Music Summer School (EMSS) at Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He won 1st prize in the Junior Harpsichord Festival 2017 of the DULWICH MUSIC FESTIVAL in the UK. He was awarded Christa Bach- Marschall Foundation Prize at the 23rd International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition Leipzig 2022 in Germany.
He performed at Kioi Hall in Tokyo as a part of the “Kioi Up & Coming Artists” program which introduces and supports young talents and is a grant for young performers in June 2023. He has been performing at multiple music festivals in the Netherlands; in the fringe concert of the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht 2017, and the Schiermonnikoog Festival in the spring, of 2024. He has been uploading his playing on the YouTube channel and receiving comments from worldwide.
He has studied harpsichord with Marco Mencoboni, Menno van Delft, Genzo Takehisa, Mai Shigeoka, and Mayako Sone. He also has participated in masterclasses with Pierre Hantaï (Academie Musicale Villeclose in France, 2023), Pieter-Jan Belder, Miklós Spányi, Takashi Watanabe, and Naruhiko Kawaguchi. He is currently studying harpsichord at Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
